Camilla learns to fish

Yesterday Dave and I and Camilla decided to go up in the canyon to see if we could catch any fish. We stopped at the store first and Camilla got her first fishing pole, Dora the Explorer style =)

Dave showed her how to cast off and reel in, after putting a worm on the hook, and she LOVED it! She did a really great job and was doing it by herself in no time.

Unfortunately our day was cut short by thunderstorms, but we are looking forward to going again now that the summer season is upon us =)

4th Grade Rendevouz

On Thursday May 28th and Friday May 29th, Jordan's school hosted it's annual 4th Grade Rendevouz where the 4th graders get to participate in 2 days of Pioneer type activities.

This 1st picture is from Thursday, Jordan is on the far left.

On Friday, Branda (Jordan's step-mom) and I volunteered as Group Leaders, and were in charge of a group of 7 kids from Jordan's class (including Jordan) and the other 4th grade class. We went through 7 activities that were a lot of fun!

Our group first made Ice Cream the old fashioned way, by rolling a can on the ground that had another can inside with the ice cream ingredients, packed in with ice and rock salt. After only 10 minutes of rolling we had a tasty ice cream treat to enjoy =)

Next we did some "Gold Panning". The kids learned about the main places in Utah where gold has been discovered, and then used pie pans with holes in them to pan for gold! The day before they had made cute little leather pouches to hold their "gold" (gold painted rocks).

After that we went to the pillow stuffing station where the kids stuffed pillows that they had made a few weeks ago. Jordan painted a Utah Raptor on his pillow. After they were stuffed, the kids sewed them up all by themselves.

At the next station the kids made Rain Sticks by putting a long piece of crumpled up tinfoil inside a cardboard tube and adding assorted dried beans and popcorn. Then they decorated them with beads and feathers and drew pictures on the outside of the tubes.

The station all the kids were looking forward to the most was next on the list. Archery! Their teacher Mrs. Holmes had told them all beforehand that it took quite a bit of discussion to get the school board to let them do this at the school, and all of the kids were really glad that it worked out. Jordan didn't end up hitting the bullseye, but he was one of only a few kids in his group to hit the target a few times. He will be taking Archery lessons this summer, so this was a great little taste of things to come =)

After Archery we went to the Hatchet Throwing station. This was definitely the second most looked forward to stop of the day, and another activity that took a lot of discussion for the school board to approve. I even got to give it a try! None of the kids in my group got the hatchet to stick in the wood, but they did learn a valuable lesson about safetly when it comes to handling these tools.

Our last station was candle making, which I unfortunately did not get pictures of. Since the wax was REALLY hot, there was a lot do assist with on my part, so there wasn't any time to snap a picture. The kids took turns dipping a string into the wax and then into water over and over again to make their candles. Jordan's candle turned out great, it was rainbow, with blue on top, green in the middle, and red on the bottom.

After we were done with activities, we had a dutch oven lunch and dessert, and then the kids performed square dancing which they had been practicing over the last 3 months. It was so much fun towatch, and I giggled the entire time because Jordan was taking it sooo seriously!

It was a really fun day, and I was so glad that I volunteered so I could get all these great pictures and be there with them during the activities. Jordan was very happy to have both Branda and I there.
His 4th grade year is really coming to a great close. It has been a lot of HARD work, but they have been rewarded with a lot of really fun activities and field trips in the last few weeks. So far they have gone to a Dance performance at the nearby highschool, the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers Museum, Petco, and Timpanoogas Cave. Next week they will finish the school year with a bowling field trip, swimming field trip and field day at school.

Mom aka Grandma Diane comes for a visit!

From Thursday May 21st to Monday May 25th, my mom (aka Grandma Diane) came to visit. She had been at a work related conference in Miami, and decided to stop by Salt Lake for a few days before going home so she could spend some time with us.

The kids got to spend the night with her twice, and they went to movies, played in the park, and had lots of fun! My Grandma Larae (aka Grandma Grape) always has my mom stay with her when she comes to visit, so the kids got to have a lot of Grandma time =)

On Sunday May 24th, Dave and I and Camilla went with the "Grandmas" to see the movie Monsters vs. Aliens in 3D, and then Camilla got to go on the carousel at Hollywood Connection with Grandma Diane.

It was a fun visit, and we always enjoy seeing Mom/Grandma Diane since she lives at the Grand Canyon and can only visit occasionally. We are really looking forward to her next visit already =)

Spencer is joining the Army!

On Friday May 22nd, Dave's sister Leah threw a surprise going away party for their little brother Spencer. He flew to North Carolina on Wednesday the 27th to stay with their sister Elizabeth until he goes to basic training. We are really proud of Spencer for joining up to help defend our Country =) Leah did a great job arranging the party and Spencer was VERY surprised.

Cub Scouts Pack 3220 Graduation

On Thursday May 21st, Jordan Graduated from the Cub Scout Pack 3220 Webelos 1 Den to the Webelos 2 Den. He will spend the next year earning his arrow of light badge and other badges and pins to advance to Boy Scouts. We are very proud of him! He worked really hard to get everything he needed to earn his Webelos Badge this year =)

He was also lucky enough to have his Grandma Diane in town to witness the ceremony, and Great Grandma Larae came too! It was really nice to have everyone there for him. Way to go Jordan!

Graduation/Spaghetti Dinner/Race For the Cure/Dave's Birthday/Mother's Day Weekend!!

May 7th-10th was the busiest 4-day weekend I can remember having in years! It kicked off with Dave's brother Aaron graduating from the University of Utah with his Bachelors of Science in Nursing Degree. I was unable to attend his graduation ceremony at Kingsbury Hall on Thursday the 7th due to my work schedule, but dave was there along with a bunch of other family member to watch Aaron get his degree!

Family: Carolyn, Matt, Spencer, Christy, Aaron, Momma, Dave, Leah, Joe and Ray Clay

The Graduate!

On Friday the 8th, Aaron's wife Christy threw a celebration get together at Mueller Park in Bountiful that was a lot of fun. We ate some good southern food (fried chicken, homemade mac & cheese, potato salad, baked beans, yum!) and had smores and cake for dessert.

Saturday the 9th, early in the morning, we headed into Downtown Salt Lake City to do the Susan G. Komen 13th Annual Race for the Cure. We were so blessed to have Dave's mom (hereafter referred to as Momma) with us this year as she was in town for Aaron's graduation. It's always such an amazing experience to do this walk and help raise money to fund Breast Cancer research. When Momma was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2006 she didn't have any health insurance, and non profit organizations like the Susan G. Komen foundation make it possible for women like her to recieve everything they need to recover, regardless of their ability to pay. you'll notice in the pictures that Momma is wearing a pink shirt and hat, these were worn only by Breast Cancer Survivors.

Walkers: Stefani, Lucy, Natalie, Joe, Leah, Dave, Momma, Matt, Carolyn and Griffith (in the stroller)

I am always in awe of the turnout. On a 5 lane street in downtown Salt Lake City, people filled the road for more than 3 miles!

Saturday evening was Jordan's Cub Scout Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser. This is the only fundraiser that the Boy Scout Troop 220 (a non denominational troop in Davis county) does each year, and it was a lot bigger than we could have imagined. Doing the fundraiser allows us to raise the dues for Jordan's scout membership, and also provides the boys with an opportunity to "serve" their community and help their fellow scouts. Jordan was very dedicated to his duties and showed a lot of maturity and responsibility. I was very proud to watch him work =) We sold over $100 in tickets and he had lots of family come to eat and see him at work.

Sunday the 10th was a twofer, Mother's Day and Dave's 31st Birthday. I got a Mother's Day card and then Dave took Camilla, Momma and I out to breakfast. After breakfast Dave wanted to go golfing with his brothers, and since I haven't been in a couple of years, I went too. It turned into a large group. Momma and Camilla rode in a cart and observed our play! After we were done with 9 holes, Dave and his brothers decided to go golfing some more, and Momma and I went to meet with a few more of the sisters to have dinner and see a movie. We ate at the Olive Garden and then went to see Confessions of a Shopaholic (which is a really cute funny movie!).

I was totally exhausted by the end of the weekend, but was lucky enough to have 2 more days off to recover, so I was ready to go to work again when it was time. I hope we don't have too many more super packed weekends like that coming up anytime soon, but it was a lot of fun to spend so much time with family =)
By the way, I forgot to bring my camera to any of these events, and didn't think until later that I could have used my phone =P Needless to say, I hijacked these pics from other people. So thanks to Leah, Christy, Joe and Cass for making all these great pics possible =)
